It would seem as though I will be temporarily taking a backseat in the synth and brass area with the NS2, as this is not an area of strength for Nord. Also, IMO - the ability to interact live with the NS2's knobs is preferable to sifting through menus and hierarchies on the Kronos. Additionally, I will have excellent EP's and organ as well as access to an ever expansive library of improved sounds moving forward. Too bad because I was really impressed by the Kronos but I now feel, unless I am wrong, that the Nord will offer me the 73 semi-weighted board that the Kronos will not currently. If they do decide to improve the weighted keybeds than I will consider replacing my CP300 with a K88 if there is enough improvement to their weighted boards. My thoughts are to purchase the NS2 SW73 and wait to see if Korg decides to address their horrible weighted keybeds. If they had a 73 or 76 semi-weighted board than I would have very likely purchased it. Reason being that the only Kronos that I would consider is the K61 and 61 keys will just not cut it for me in live situations where I need more than 5 octaves and I hate the octave shift feature. In any event, after much consideration, I will likely lean towards the NS2. I was able to try out a Kurzweil PC3 yesterday and was not overly impressed - maybe it's just me. The everything else for me being strings, organ, brass, and synths. Ideally, I would like to play out with a weighted key setup for AP's & EP's, which I already have(CP300), and a semi-weighted board for basically everything else. Thank you all very much for your reponses - they are all very much appreciated. You are also available to use those samples as the sound source for the synth engine, which means you can affect the attack/decay/release and filter it.

First just activate the synth section and load the init patch (SHIFT+Sound init, the button right to the Synth section volume knob) then switch the oscilator type to SAMP and with the knob under the two digit screen you browse through the different samples available, youВґll have to find the ones you like. Although I lean more to the NS2 because it sounds somewhat more 'vintage' and 'real' to me, but the KRONOS has a lot of different EP presets, which makes it easier to use in that regard.ДЄnd finally, to answer your question: to access brass and string samples you need to do so via the synth engine. I have tried out extensively the KRONOS and I would personally think that both of the EPs are just as good.

There are some string samples that sound amazing, but they do not have a lot of the expressiveness found on the keyboard workstations.ДЄs a tip when you try out EPs again: I find that they sound the best on the NS2 with a little bit of distortion, and some treble boost, with dynamics set to 3 (you press SHIFT+DYNAMICS), try the Mark I, I find that one the best. As long as you do not need extremely realistic acoustic instruments besides pianos, or very complex synthesizer sounds, the Nord Stage will be great for you. The Nord Stage is excelent for anything jazzy or when trying to recreate basically anything that came before the 90s. While it IS a matter of personal preference, here is my opinion: I play Chicago covers and Stevie Wonder and need decent sounding horns and was wondering if someone could steer me in the right direction for a semi-weighted board that will cover me in the areas mentioned above.

I could not figure out how to access the strings and brass on the Nord so I could not comment either way.

IMO - here is what I liked about each based on what I heard coming from the studio monitors in stereo:ДЇor EP's, AP's, and Brass - The Kronos(The keybed on the 88 version was horrible but the 61 SW key was fine)ДЇor Organ and AP's - The Nord Stage 2(The ep's were very good but liked the Kronos better) Unfortunately there were no Kurzweil's to try out. While at GC today, I tried out the Motif, Kronos, and Stage. I would also like to have credible Rhodes and Wurly patches as well. Having said that, I need a semi-weighted board to cover Hammond and all the other bread and butter patches such as synths, brass, strings, and etc. I use the Yammy for AP's exclusively, as I am a big Yamaha AP fan and also love their keybed action as well. I am new to this forum and have been in the market for a semi-weighted board to sit on top of my Yamaha CP300.
